Betty has retired from a career in financial services and mortgage banking. For 23 years, she worked for Midland Financial, including service as Assistant Vice President. In this capacity, Betty was responsible for marketing, communications, and community engagement. She worked in loan origination at Principal, and was a marketing representative for two mortgage investors covering the Western half of the United States. Betty was also a senior account manager for PMI Mortgage Insurance for 11 years, where she was responsible for establishing, building, and maintaining relationships with community bankers and mortgage professionals across Iowa and Nebraska.
A long-time resident of the Des Moines metro area, Betty's community involvement spans more than 40 years. She is completing her second term on the Windsor Heights city council. She has served: as a member and president of Greater Des Moines Chamber Alliance; on the board of the Des Moines Convention and Visitors' Bureau; on the Des Moines Metro 2000 committee; on the board of the Des Moines Family Counseling Center; as a member of Ad Professionals of Des Moines; a member of Downtown Des Moines, Inc.; as a deacon for Plymouth Church; and in various capacities as a community volunteer with Johnston Schools, Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa, and Keep Windsor Heights Beautiful.
Vision for Windsor Heights
Betty has lived in Windsor Heights since 1998, and has always admired the neighborhoods and community pride shared by members of the city. Since joining the City Council in 2009, Betty has prioritized projects that advance the vision she has for the city, including:
- Retain the character that makes Windsor Heights a unique, safe, and comfortable community for all families.
- Support and enhance green spaces for residents to enjoy.
- Repairing and updating aging infrastructure to ensure future community progress.
- Serve the taxpayers of Windsor Heights with a government that is transparent and responsive to community desires and concerns.
Education & Professional Licensure
Betty held an Iowa Real Estate license for nearly two decades, and strengthened her financial services industry expertise as a graduate of the Savings and Loan Institute. She has also attended Flint Junior College, Michigan State University, Grandview University, and Drake University.
Betty and her husband Michael have been married for 35 years, and they enjoy traveling and gardening. Betty's daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren also live in Windsor Heights.
