12/11/20 Road Project Update

2020 road projects

Check out our FAQ on road construction in Windsor Heights.

69th St

Stage 2: The contractor will finish the concrete work on the east side of the road the week of December 14th. Backfilling behind the curb, around sidewalks, and driveways will be finished up by the end of next week, weather dependent.

Stage 3 & 4:  All near side (east side) services have been completed. The contractor will finish doing the far side (west side) services the week of December 14th. After water services have been transferred off the old main, temporary driveways will be installed for all driveways that were affected in stages 3 and 4.

The contractor will make temporary connections between old and new pavement on the street so that it’s a smooth transition for motorists. The road is open to through traffic, but please use caution because we’ve still got some materials in the roadway.

Stages 3 and 4 will not be completed until the spring of 2021. On 12/7, the City Council approved a change order to allow for 72 working days for stages 3 and 4 to be completed on this project in the spring of 2021. Affected residents will be given as much notice as we can before work begins again in the spring.

If you experience problems or have any questions or concerns specific to your water, please contact the DMWW Project Manager, Carla Schumacher, at 515-323-6227 (office) or cschumacher@dmww.com.

There are public information forums held by Zoom at 2 PM on Friday afternoons for each project as well. The last planned update for this season will be help on December 18th:             https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89327380827?pwd=VGI3M1VJRjYzdFRmT3c0VHBURTF6dz09

College Drive Updates

The road is opened back up to through traffic. For the week of December 14th, the contractor will be installing permanent street signs and removing traffic controls. Temporary erosion control spray will be put down on the disturbed areas. This material does not have any grass seed in it. The area will be seeded in the spring. There are a few driveway approaches on phase 3 that are getting re-poured towards the end of the week. The affected residents have been notified.

All work is expected to be finished up on phases 1, 2, and 3 by Saturday next week. Phase 4 will begin in the spring of 2021. Affected residents on phase 4 will receive notices as soon as we’ve got a good idea of when the project will be starting again. The City council approved a change order on 12/7/2020 to allow for 45 working days on phase 4.

If you experience problems or have any questions or concerns specific to your water, please contact the DMWW Project Manager, Carla Schumacher, at 515-323-6227 (office) or cschumacher@dmww.com.

Allison Avenue Updates

Stage 2B is scheduled to be poured on Monday, December 14th, weather dependent. The contractor will strip forms, cut in joints, seal the joints, and backfill the rest of the week. The remaining driveways, boxouts, and connections will be poured on Wednesday. The majority of the site work for the Allison Avenue project is expected to be wrapped up by Saturday, December 19th

University Avenue Updates

During the week of December 14th, the contractor will be cleaning up and preparing for the winter shutdown.  Electrical work will continue between 70th Street and 73rd Street as weather allows throughout the winter.  Work is weather dependent.  All businesses are open.  For everyone’s safety, monitor traffic control changes, and no texting while driving.  Watch for construction workers and the added construction truck traffic.  Do NOT follow trucks into the work zone.
