Iowa DOT Resurfacing 63rd Street Starting September 10th

The Iowa Department of Transportation will be completing a resurfacing project on 63rd Street between University and Hickman with a start date of September 10, 2018. The contractor has 10 business days to complete the project once it is initiated. This project will result in 63rd Street being closed to through traffic during the project. This will be a “hard closure,” with all streets along 63rd being closed. Residents will continue to have access to their property. This closure will also affect Cowles Montessori School, and no doubt the traffic in the area. Public Safety Staff has met with Cowles Elementary to ensure the most efficient traffic control during the process. The contractor has been asked to erect a barricade at 64th and Del Matro detouring all northbound traffic on 64th to westbound Del Matro for the duration of the project. Residents and motorists are asked to have patience with each other and are reminded this should only be a 10-day project. While we understand the frustrations that accompany road construction, significant planning has gone into this project to help minimize the impact on those in the area.
