Winter storms have arrived. The City of Windsor Heights encourages all residents to use caution while traveling and to prepare for potentially slick roads throughout the season.
Snow Parking Ordinance Reminder
Per City Code Chapter 60.10.10, it is unlawful to park any vehicle on any City street:
During the time of any snowfall, and
For 24 hours following the end of the snowfall,
Except when necessary to avoid an accident or when following directions from a police officer or traffic control device.
Vehicles parked on the street during plowing operations may be ticketed.
These rules help ensure that our Public Works team can clear roads quickly and safely for emergency vehicles, school buses, and all residents who rely on safe travel.
How You Can Help
Move parked vehicles off the street before snow begins. Vehicles left on the street during snow and ice events make it difficult for Public Works staff to effectively clear the roads, slowing operations and creating safety hazards for both drivers and plow operators.
Allow extra travel time and drive cautiously on icy roads.
Stay tuned to City updates for weather advisories and operational changes.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping Windsor Heights safe and accessible during winter weather events.
Residents are required by ordinance to clear sidewalks (including pedestrian ramps) within 48 hours after the end of a snowfall. Please shovel or blow the snow into your yard, not in the street. If your sidewalk is icy, please apply salt to melt the ice. It is best to remove the snow as early as possible to prevent the buildup of ice or packing of the snow.Property owners that do not remove the snow accumulations from their sidewalk will be notified with a door hanger stating that if the snow is not removed within 24 hours of delivery of the notice, the owner may be subject to a citation and the City may choose to perform the work and assess the costs against the property.
