Priorities
Michael Libbie was inspired to run for City Council after meeting then Vice President Biden several years ago following the death of his mother. The two discussed grief (President Biden had recently lost his son Beau to brain cancer following the death of his first wife and infant daughter in a vehicle accident years earlier). President Biden said, "Michael the very best way you can honor the memory of your dear mother is to always, in every way, do good for others. It is never a bad time to do good."
His desire to serve is predicated on that and the last line of the Jaycee Creed, "service to humanity is the best work of life.”
Personal Life
Libbie has also been the spiritual leader of the Jewish Congregation of Mason City – Adas Israel - for the past 30 years. Married, Michael is the husband of Georgie and they have three children and six grandchildren.
Term
Councilmember Libbie's term expires in January 2026.
