Community Policing in the City of Windsor Heights, Iowa is defined as an organizational-wide commitment to the citizens of Windsor Heights. The goal is to provide access and opportunities for all citizens to become involved in the development of partnerships. These partnerships will work toward solutions to concerns and issues by collaborative problem solving. The intent is to both develop and enhance relationships throughout the community with all citizens and community organizations; to listen to concerns; to evaluate crime-related data; and to provide timely and realistic proactive, and when necessary, re-active responses to the citizens.

Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement (ABLE) Project

The Windsor Heights Police DepartmABLE Opens in new windowent was approved to join the Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement Program in July of 2021. The ABLE Project is a national hub for training, technical assistance, and research, all with the aim of creating a police culture in which officers routinely intervene as necessary to:

  • Prevent Misconduct,
  • Avoid Police Mistakes, and 
  • Promote officer health and wellness.
