City Attorney

Responsibilies

  • Providing basic advise to the city council and staff
  • Interpreting how the law applies to current or proposed ordinances, policies, programs and activities
  • Prosecuting violations of city ordinances, such as zoning, nuisance or traffic laws
  • Drafting ordinances, resolutions, contracts, agreements, administrative policies, and other legal documents; reviewing rough draft of ordinances and resolutions prepared by city staff
  • Attending meetings and answering inquiries from council members, staff or citizens
  • Generally representing the city in lawsuits initialed by or against the city

John Danos

John Danos, is a partner at Dorsey & Whitney LLP. Since 2002 John has helped cities, counties, special districts and private entities meet their goals through tax exempt and taxable municipal bond issues, private debt placements, lease purchase financing and other debt arrangements.

John has extensive experience in structuring economic development transactions involving tax increment financing, tax abatement and other local government support. In addition, John is a frequent presenter at local government conventions, legal seminars and public finance meetings on topics related to tax increment financing, economic development, municipal debt and complex local government issues.
